Scott commenced his career with AMP Group in New Zealand in 1989, then joined Appleton in 1996 and was appointed MD of Appleton International London in 2000. Scott achieved a five star ranking and awards from Standard & Poor’s for the management of several of the Appleton range of offshore funds. In 2002 he set up what is now MitonOptimal Guernsey and is involved in the development of MitonOptimal group of companies.

Sports are a passion for Scott, including golf, cycling, squash, tennis and - more watching than playing these days -rugby and cricket. That is when the time is not taken up with the family activities and the small farm they have in the winelands.

Shaun McDade

Joint Managing Director (Guernsey) and Head of Portfolio Management (International)
Shaun has specialised in investment management since 1984 and has worked for a variety of Guernsey-based entities that include UK and international banks, stockbrokers and private trust companies, where he was responsible for private client, trust, captive insurance and institutional portfolios, including quoted funds. In October 2002 he co-founded an owner-managed asset management business that was later acquired by the MitonOptimal Group in 2012. Away from work, he is a golfer, traveller, scuba diver (in warm water!) and classic vehicle owner, enjoys food, wine and embarrassing his two grown-up kids.

Roeloff Horne - MitonOptimal South Africa

Roeloff Horne

Director and Head of Portfolio Management (SA)
Roeloff is a Key Individual and the Head of SA Portfolio Management MitonOptimal. He is responsible for managing the outcome of the Local Multi Asset Funds and Portfolios in conjunction with a large investment management team and CIO Scott Campbell.

He was a founder and Director of Eagle Asset Management and Bond Street Financial Services, now MitonOptimal Portfolio Management (SA). He has a National Certificate in Financial Markets & Instruments and an International Capital Markets qualification from the London Securities Institute.

Roeloff founded Bond Street in 2000 and was instrumental in structuring the company as a Portfolio Management Company. Roeloff has been responsible for the Diversified Income and Worldwide Flexible Fund of Funds since their inception in 2005 and 2008 respectively. Roeloff is an avid golfer and family man.

Simon Sharrott, MitonOptimal International (Guernsey)

Simon Sharrott ACSI

Joint Managing Director (Guernsey) and Portfolio Manager
Prior to joining MitonOptimal, Simon was a semi-professional rugby player in the UK. He joined the financial services sector (post university) and has previously worked for RBC (Guernsey) Ltd, Augentius Fund Administration Ltd and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney PTY Ltd (Sydney Office). Simon has been a member of the MitonOptimal CI Investment team (based in our Guernsey office) since 2012. He sits on both the Investment Management Committee (‘IMC’) and the Senior Management Committee for the Guernsey office. He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment and his principal role within MitonOptimal is as a Director and Portfolio Manager, servicing our international client base. His personal interests include playing rugby, skiing, food, travel and single malt whiskies.

New Zealander Blair joined the MitonOptimal CI Investment team in June 2010, prior to working at the Channel Island Stock Exchange as a Listings Analyst. Blair has a Business Degree, majoring in Finance, from the Massey University, New Zealand and He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment. Blair is an avid rugby player and also appreciates good food and wine.

James Sullivan

Managing Director (UK) & Fund Manager
James co-founded Coram Asset Management in 2014 which was subsequently acquired by MitonOptimal International in 2016. James is a Director of the UK business and is responsible for managing the multi-asset funds and sits on the International Investment Management Committee.

James has worked in financial services since 1999 as a founding member of iimia plc. Growth of the business saw the acquisition of Exeter Fund Managers, Miton Asset Management and Midas Capital Partners and rebranded as Miton Group plc. James was appointed co-manager of the Miton Special Situations and Miton Strategic Portfolios in 2008.

Head of Portfolio Management (UK)

In 1972, Paul embarked on a career in the investment industry at Grieveson Grant stock brokers in the City of London. He chose to specialise in collective investments in 1978, setting up and running a unit trust discretionary portfolio management service (UTDPMS). Paul joined Stock Beech & Co, Bristol stockbrokers in 1980 before moving to Charterhall Management Services in 1987, establishing a UTDPMS at each company respectively.

In 1991, Paul founded Minerva Fund Managers where he was responsible for managing portfolios both for individuals and third party funds on a discretionary basis. In 1994, Paul began to run discretionary SRI Portfolios for clients before launching an additional series of model portfolios in 2006 which included both SRI and Ethical Portfolios for clients of introducing IFAs. Following MitonOptimal’s acquisition of Minerva in 2017, Paul now acts as Head of Portfolio Management for the Model Portfolio Service and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Richard Harwood

Managing Director (Jersey) and Fund Manager
After graduating from the University of Essex, where he read Policy Making and Administration, Richard spent the first 13 years of his career working for the GNI Group covering equities, bullion and derivatives. He regularly appeared at international conferences as a speaker on “The Use of Derivatives in Portfolio Management”. In 1999 he joined SG Hambros (Jersey) as the Head of the Investment Management Team and in 2001 founded his own company Theta Enhanced Asset Management (TEAM) where he was the Chief Investment Officer. He sold this Company in 2007 to a management buy out before forming Orchard Wealth Management later that year. Orchard Wealth Management became part of the MitonOptimal Group in 2018. Richard was awarded the CFA Charter in 2007.

In his spare time, Richard is a keen sports fan and occasional participant and a prolific Charity Fundraiser having initiated several events which have raised millions of pounds for the local Hospice.

James Downie

Head of Institutional Asset Consulting
James has been in the investments and employee benefits industry for 35 years. He has a BSc in Maths and Statistics, an MBA from UCT and holds the CFP designation.

James has consulted to insurance companies, retirement funds and trusts in South Africa and Namibia and has experience through investment cycles. He also has extensive experience with liability-driven investing.

James was South Africa’s first independent trustee trainer and is the author of the LexisNexis book, “The Essentials of Retirement Fund Management”, which has become a university set book. He has developed a number of bespoke systems designed to both assess asset managers and implement solutions for clients.
