Overnight Markets: Wall Street falls alongside oil

Wall Street closed lower for a third-straight day on Wednesday as oil resumed its decline, fuelling investor worries about global economic growth. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 78 points, or 0.43%, to 17,492, the S&P 500 lost 16 points, or 0.77%, to 2,048 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 75 points, or 1.48%, to 5,023.

Chinese Momentum Investing

Apparently, everyone is presently nervous of the markets and is raising cash, although it would seem that Chinese investors “didn’t receive that memo” until yesterday, with the main exchange indices down 6%. The chart (Fig: 1) highlights how amazing a run the Shanghai index has had over the past 12 months, prior to Thursday’s volatility.
